To Ghee Or Not To Ghee!

Updated: Jul 20, 2021

Ghee, an integral part of any traditional Indian meal, has gone in and out of fashion numerous times over the decades. Opinions remain divided over whether it is good for health or it isn't. Let's take a vote, what do you think of ghee?

If you voted in favour, you're bang on. Voted against? You are not entirely wrong - too much of anything can't do good and that is the case with ghee too! No, we aren't sitting on the fence; here's our take on the good, bad and ugly of cow ghee.

The ancient scriptures of Ayurveda consider pure cow ghee as Holy Medicine and here's why. When made from curds, ghee promotes healthy microbes in the stomach, balances stomach acids, repairs the stomach lining and improves digestion. Ghee consumption improves memory, eyesight and complexion. It can be applied locally to heal wounds, cracked lips, cracked heels and ease dry skin. It has antioxidants, boosts immunity and suits all ages. Though it is a dairy product, it does not contain lactose hence suits most lactose-intolerant people. There are many many more benefits and is used extensively by Ayurvedic practitioners.

On the other hand, too much of ghee can cause diarrhea or indigestion. It may be best avoided during fever, cold and liver-related illnesses. If taken beyond reasonable quantities, it can cause weight gain too. Simply put, pure cow ghee advantages far outweigh the disadvantages.

Making ghee at home is quite simple, mix curds with cream, let it set, churn and separate the butter. Melt this clean butter to a clear golden yellow and viola! your ghee is ready. Of course, for pure desi cow ghee, you must know the milk source which might prove quite a challenge. Not with ours though... we guarantee 100% purity in every drop because we use milk from our own organic grass-fed desi cows.
